First Public Statue of Ataturk on US Soil

BYt1EPHCcAEA6ECOn the 75th anniversary of Ataturk’s death, Ataturk Society of America presented the first public statue of Ataturk in United States. The statue was unveiled to the crowd in Sheridan Circle on November 10th, the ceremony was followed by a moment of silence at 09.05 am to honor Mustafa Kemal Ataturk’s memory.

Turkey’s ambassador to Washington, Namık Tan hosted the ceremony and ASA president Hüdai Yavalar made a speech, stressing out the hardships they endured during the two year process of getting permissions for the statue and adding that they are very proud of their accomplishment.

The 208 cm bronze statue was sculpted by local artist Jeffery Hall.
